You are invited to participate in a conversation about mental health, "Everyday Trauma: How Are We Coping as Individuals in the Workplace and in Our Community?" hosted by the Georgetown-Howard Universities Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences (GHUCCTS) on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 from 5PM-8:30PM at the Howard University Louis Stokes Health Sciences Library, 501 W Street NW, 4th Floor, Washington DC 20059 (near Shaw Howard University Metro).

The discussion will include a panel of experts in trauma informed care from Howard University and Georgetown University - Dr. Janice Berry Edwards, Dr. Mary Ann Dutton, Dr. Priscilla Dass-Brailsford, and Tawara Goode. Andy Arias, panelist, will discuss everyday occurrences ​experienced through the lens of multiple cultural identities and share personal reflections about the impact of microaggressions (discrimination). The conversation will be moderated by Dr. Abyssinia Washington.

The town hall forum will include an experiential self-care program (office yoga, dance movement therapy, and artistic expression) to learn how to exercise protective measures to cope with everyday trauma. Join the conversation to address issues of trauma stemming from stress, violence, abuse, sexual harassment and discrimination as well as current research and interventions to address the problem within our local communities will be highlighted.

Program will feature Body Wise Dance, Life Pieces to Masterpieces, Office Yoga hosted by Matt Mason, Georgetown University as well as live poetry performance by C.Thomas.

Join us for food and beverage during the welcome reception starting at 5PM.
Seats are still available.

The event is free but registration required.
